Update May 3: The band has been deleting all comments and questions left by fans on their facebook page and still has failed to contact us.
Several popular bands including the Christian rock band Texas in July are playing a benefit tour for the pro-abortion sex education site, sexetc.org. sexetc.org is a so-called ‘sex education’ website providing “sex education for teens by teens”. The site promotes abortion, speaks out against crisis pregnancy centers as well as promoting LGBT support for kids. The site also provides “how to” information for teens to engage in homosexual sex acts.
The tour recently welcomed Planned Parenthood into their Philadelphia stop and it did not take long to find the Planned Parenthood connection to sexetc.org. The Director of Training for Answer, the parent organization of sexetc.org, received the 2010 Mary Lee Tatum Award, an honor given by the Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education to “the person who most exemplifies the qualities of an ideal sexuality educator.”
One of the website’s main topics is, of course, abortion, with several links to organizations like Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-choice America, Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom, National Abortion Federation and Catholics for a Free Choice. Every single one of these links is to a pro-abortion organization, and not one single pregnancy help center.
One of the articles on this site was written by a 16-year-old girl telling her story of being only 14-years old and pregnant from her 18-year-old boyfriend. The girl talks about running away from home to live with her adult boyfriend and his mother, and later how they help her get an abortion. Here is an excerpt from here story:
“My boyfriend and I decided I should have an abortion. We were worried that because I had run away and because he was older, he’d get in trouble if anyone knew we had a baby. We didn’t want to put the baby up for adoption or become parents.
After we made the decision, we didn’t know where to go for the procedure, so we went to a local Planned Parenthood to talk with a counselor. During the visit, which was confidential, I took another pregnancy test (to make sure it was positive), and then the counselor referred us to another clinic, because our Planned Parenthood doesn’t perform abortions.”
Once again Planned Parenthood looked the other way as an older man impregnated a young teenage girl; this pattern is undeniable. Lila Rose and Live Action have proven over and over again with their undercover work how Planned Parenthood covers up for sex predators. How many stories like this is it going to take to wake up the world to the truth?
Another article on this website is nothing more than a attack-piece against crisis pregnancy centers. The article entitled What You Should Know about Crisis Pregnancy Centers is full of lies and just what seems to be a made up story of how bad crisis pregnancy centers are. The writer tries to make readers think that CPCs will lie to them and that the information they provide is inaccurate.
In the FAQ section they say this about crisis pregnancy centers:
“These centers claim to give women complete and accurate information about their pregnancy options when, in reality, their agenda is to dissuade women from obtaining abortions. They offer misleading and medically inaccurate information about abortion.
Common names of these centers include Crisis Pregnancy Center, Pregnancy Aid, Birth Right, Open Door, or Pregnancy Counseling Center. The Alan Guttmacher Institute reports that there are an estimated 2,500 to 4,000 fake “pregnancy counseling centers” in the U.S.
So, where can you go for honest and accurate information about your pregnancy options? Honest clinics do exist, and you can find one near you by calling the National Abortion Federation’s hotline (1-800-772-9100), or through Abortion Clinics Online.”
Another section of the website is a comprehensive sex guide called “sex in the states” which they describe as “Teens across the country ask us: Can I get the Pill without my mom finding out? Do I have to be a certain age to buy condoms? Can I get an abortion without getting permission from my parents? Are there laws protecting me from harassment at school if I’m a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender teen?” This section is a great source for sex predators as it provides the age of consent and what constitutes a minor in each state.
The Take Action tour features the bands, Silverstein, Bayside, The Polar Bear Club, The Swellers and Texas in July. When I saw that Texas in July, a Christian band, was on this tour I was shocked. I immediately tried to reach out to them contacting their management and publicity person to see if I could get a comment from the band.
I first talked to their management who did not seem to care much about the situation. At one point the person I was talking to let me know that he had no problem with the LGTB section of the website and I asked him if he was speaking for the band; he said he was not. I asked him to contact the band and ask them to talk to me about this issue and I never heard back.
I also talked to the publicity director for the band’s record company and she immediately went into a defense of the website and seemed very upset when I would not concede that this was a good charity. I tried to explain to her all the problems with sexect.org and she just did not seem to understand. I again asked her to get a hold of the band for me and she tried to make excuses about them about to be stepping on stage even thought the doors for the show weren’t set to open for a half hour. I gave her my number and she ended the conversation with “not available for comment”.
With the manager and publicity director I made it very clear that we would be writing about this tour today and we wanted to give the band a chance to comment first; we never heard back from anyone. I also e-mailed the band directly and was totally ignored.
It breaks my heart to see a band that identifies them selves as Christian get involved in a tour like this. It is bad enough that they are raising funds for this organization, but they are also inviting young people to this tour and exposing them to this garbage.
I would encourage anyone who is a fan of Texas in July or just concerned to see a Christian band playing this tour, to send them an e-mail and let them know you are disappointed. It is extremely important that you do so in a love and without name calling or being just plain mean about it. You should encourage them to leave this tour and take a stand for life.
