Christian Band, Texas in July, plays Tack Action Concert Tour that benefits dangerous pro-abortion website promoting the cover up of a child rape of a runaway by Planned Parenthood.

Update May 3: The band has been deleting all comments and questions left by fans on their facebook page and still has failed to contact us.

Several popular bands including the Christian rock band Texas in July are playing a benefit tour for the pro-abortion sex education site, is a so-called ‘sex education’ website providing “sex education for teens by teens”. The site promotes abortion, speaks out against crisis pregnancy centers as well as promoting LGBT support for kids. The site also provides “how to” information for teens to engage in homosexual sex acts.

The tour recently welcomed Planned Parenthood into their Philadelphia stop and it did not take long to find the Planned Parenthood connection to The Director of Training for Answer, the parent organization of, received the 2010 Mary Lee Tatum Award, an honor given by the Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education to “the person who most exemplifies the qualities of an ideal sexuality educator.”

One of the website’s main topics is, of course, abortion, with several links to organizations like Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-choice America, Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom, National Abortion Federation and Catholics for a Free Choice. Every single one of these links is to a pro-abortion organization, and not one single pregnancy help center.

One of the articles on this site was written by a 16-year-old girl telling her story of being only 14-years old and pregnant from her 18-year-old boyfriend. The girl talks about running away from home to live with her adult boyfriend and his mother, and later how they help her get an abortion. Here is an excerpt from here story:

“My boyfriend and I decided I should have an abortion. We were worried that because I had run away and because he was older, he’d get in trouble if anyone knew we had a baby. We didn’t want to put the baby up for adoption or become parents.

After we made the decision, we didn’t know where to go for the procedure, so we went to a local Planned Parenthood to talk with a counselor. During the visit, which was confidential, I took another pregnancy test (to make sure it was positive), and then the counselor referred us to another clinic, because our Planned Parenthood doesn’t perform abortions.”

Once again Planned Parenthood looked the other way as an older man impregnated a young teenage girl; this pattern is undeniable. Lila Rose and Live Action have proven over and over again with their undercover work how Planned Parenthood covers up for sex predators. How many stories like this is it going to take to wake up the world to the truth?

Another article on this website is nothing more than a attack-piece against crisis pregnancy centers. The article entitled What You Should Know about Crisis Pregnancy Centers is full of lies and just what seems to be a made up story of how bad crisis pregnancy centers are. The writer tries to make readers think that CPCs will lie to them and that the information they provide is inaccurate.

In the FAQ section they say this about crisis pregnancy centers:

“These centers claim to give women complete and accurate information about their pregnancy options when, in reality, their agenda is to dissuade women from obtaining abortions. They offer misleading and medically inaccurate information about abortion.

Common names of these centers include Crisis Pregnancy Center, Pregnancy Aid, Birth Right, Open Door, or Pregnancy Counseling Center. The Alan Guttmacher Institute reports that there are an estimated 2,500 to 4,000 fake “pregnancy counseling centers” in the U.S.

So, where can you go for honest and accurate information about your pregnancy options? Honest clinics do exist, and you can find one near you by calling the National Abortion Federation’s hotline (1-800-772-9100), or through Abortion Clinics Online.”

Another section of the website is a comprehensive sex guide called “sex in the states” which they describe as “Teens across the country ask us: Can I get the Pill without my mom finding out? Do I have to be a certain age to buy condoms? Can I get an abortion without getting permission from my parents? Are there laws protecting me from harassment at school if I’m a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender teen?” This section is a great source for sex predators as it provides the age of consent and what constitutes a minor in each state.

The Take Action tour features the bands, Silverstein, Bayside, The Polar Bear Club, The Swellers and Texas in July. When I saw that Texas in July, a Christian band, was on this tour I was shocked. I immediately tried to reach out to them contacting their management and publicity person to see if I could get a comment from the band.

I first talked to their management who did not seem to care much about the situation. At one point the person I was talking to let me know that he had no problem with the LGTB section of the website and I asked him if he was speaking for the band; he said he was not. I asked him to contact the band and ask them to talk to me about this issue and I never heard back.

I also talked to the publicity director for the band’s record company and she immediately went into a defense of the website and seemed very upset when I would not concede that this was a good charity. I tried to explain to her all the problems with and she just did not seem to understand. I again asked her to get a hold of the band for me and she tried to make excuses about them about to be stepping on stage even thought the doors for the show weren’t set to open for a half hour. I gave her my number and she ended the conversation with “not available for comment”.

With the manager and publicity director I made it very clear that we would be writing about this tour today and we wanted to give the band a chance to comment first; we never heard back from anyone. I also e-mailed the band directly and was totally ignored.

It breaks my heart to see a band that identifies them selves as Christian get involved in a tour like this. It is bad enough that they are raising funds for this organization, but they are also inviting young people to this tour and exposing them to this garbage.

I would encourage anyone who is a fan of Texas in July or just concerned to see a Christian band playing this tour, to send them an e-mail and let them know you are disappointed. It is extremely important that you do so in a love and without name calling or being just plain mean about it. You should encourage them to leave this tour and take a stand for life.

You can contact Texas in July at

Bryan Kemper has spent years reaching out to youth and encouraging this generation to get involved, and now he has endeavored to continue that outreach with Stand True Ministries. Stand True is an organization that believes the only way to stop abortion is to call out to Jesus and share His love with the nation. It is an organization that asks of young people, "Will you stand?" Bryan has certainly chosen to, and he can only hope and pray that others will too. View all posts by bryankemper

I sent them an email. Thanks for letting us know.

  • Meredith

Did you know that “ads by google” directly below your article refers a bunch of abortion sites? and some dallas one that says 24 weeks isn’t too late. Just wanted to let you know.

  • Asa

Hey Bryan, in regards to Meridith’s message, I’m getting the same ads on my PC. Heads up buddy. Also emailed the band, ’tis a shame, but i think with prayer they can make a proper decision representing who they say they are. Rock!

  • Asa

Scratch that – I refreshed and they were gone. Hmm….

  • Meredith

I was on my home computer. But it’s gone now? weird… but good!

HOW can they call themselves a “Christian” band and promote things that are diametrically opposed to Christ and the word of God? They CANT! Not truthfully!
I firmly believe a “pro abortion Christian” is an oxymoron!
“Foundational Christian doctrine declares that God is the Author of life and that HE is incapable of making mistakes. The only logical conclusion you can draw from these truths is that when life exists in the womb, God put that life there and it is His will for that life to be there! People who claim to be both Christian and pro abortion are basically asserting three things. First, that life is not an “Inalienable” right bestowed by God but a “Privilege” bestowed by man who can “withhold” life if he “choses” to do so. “WE are gods now! WE will decide…! “The second thing they are asserting is that God is Neutral about whether a beautiful, innocent, precious and defenseless child that He created is brutally ripped limb from limb and sucked from the God ordained place of safety and nurture that He in His great wisdom and great love pre-ordained. Or slowly, chemically in merciless pain and agony is chemically burned to death in a saline abortion! The third thing pro abortion so called Christians are asserting is that it is possible to reject these innocent and precious new lives without rejecting God Himself! From a “Christian” perspective these arguments are absurd.”
Paul said that he was innocent of the blood of all men BECAUSE HE DID NOT SHUN to declare the WHOLE COUNSEL of God! And then he went right to speaking about how ravaging wolves would come in amongst the flock. Acts 20:26-31 Jesus made a parallel statement in Matthew 7:13-21 “Enter by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads to life, and there are FEW who find it. BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravenous wolves!”
I read part of the manuscript of a preacher in Texas who fills stadiums with followers with “Itching ears!” He was on Larry King and when asked what was his take on “homosexual indoctrination in schools and abortion on demand” he said: “Larry, I dont go there!” I doubt if he preaches against any other sin if he doesnt “Go there” on these blatent abominations against the nature and character of our precious and loving God! When Larry mentioned hell he danced around that too! I fear that in hell there will be multitudes searching for such wolves, grabbing the hair of the head of each person whos head is hanging down to see if “They” are the person who was in this position of trust that deceived them and led them down the way that was broad and the gate that was wide! Who didnt declare “THE WHOLE COUNSEL of God!”

As if any of you -author included- knows what’s best for the band. It’s pretty clear that this tour is serving the purpose of getting their name out there and promoting One Reality. I love this band, and I am a faithful Christian as well. Who are we to judge what they do? If you want to actually support the band, support them by going to shows.

Need I remind you that August Burns Red went on this exact tour with The Human Abstract a few years back? Cmon now, be supportive and quit your judging.

    • bryankemper

Jordan when August Burns Red did the tour they were not raising money for this pro-abortion organization and spreading this filth to kids. Texas in July is responsible for what they are raising money for and who they are promoting. They know better than this.

      • Jordan W

        My apologies, didn’t realize that.

I’m just trying to be a bit more unbiased here. I understand that people may not agree with it. Even I may not agree with it, but there’s no way that you know what’s best for the band. By all means, send them an email. But I implore you not to tell them what to do. That’s whiny and childish. Feel free to take a stance, but don’t expect a change simply because some people feel more offended than others. It really isn’t in our place to judge their actions, that right is reserved for God and God alone.

I don’t agree with this either, but I don’t think it’s in our hands.

      • bryankemper

Jordan the problem is that TIJ is not just raising money for Sexetc, they are asking kids to come to the show and give money to Sexetc by buying a ticket. They are exposing kids to the garbage that sexetc is pushing on young people. They are advertising this tour and what is goes to on their website, asking people to support it.

They have done this as a public action asking others to support this organization by promoting it and playing the show. Because of that we have a duty to speak out and warn people.

It is not about being offended, it is about calling out an injustice. They are providing money for this organization and asking others to do the same by asking them to buy tickets.

    • April

Jordan, do you really thing that Christ is worried about what is best for the band? Or, do you think it’s reasonable that he is more concerned with saving the lives of millions of unborn babies from being systematically murdered by abortion? Do you think that God cares about venues and publicity or is it reasonable to assume that his desire is to see young women have healthy babies and make choices that are life affirming?

Honestly, God does not tell us that we are free to do as we wish, but he reminds us time and time again that our lives should be lived as a sacrifice. That our goal should be to live blameless before the world and before him. We are to stand for justice, for life and for love. It’s not judging to tell someone they are wrong. It’s not judging to correct a brother/sister out of love. It is VERY wrong to turn a blind eye to sin or condone evil with our silence.

Remember, narrow is the path to everlasting life, wide is the gate to destruction. We don’t want anyone to live in deception. The truth is what sets us free!! Jesus, is the truth, he is the word in the flesh and it’s his Father’s will that we should be promoting, sharing and living. This band needs to rethink their motives and check their actions against the word. If it’s not in accordance with the word, then they are doing something they should not be doing.

No amount of money or promotion in this world is worth grieving my Lord. No amount of earthly treasure is worth sinning before my God and no amount of fame or fortune is worth my eternity.

      • Jordan W

You’re all still judging. That isn’t your job. Stop assuming that God didn’t plan for this to happen, and maybe accept that this could have been predestined. Don’t speak to me as if I don’t know Bible passages. I would much rather embrace those in love rather than cast them down with useless hate.

And realize that maybe the reason you aren’t getting a response is because you don’t realize that they’re on tour 24/7 right now. I don’t wish to tell anyone their business, but I used to tour with my band and there is little to no free time between shows.

        They have issued a response:

“Many people seem to be confused on where we stand on certain issues and we just want to apologize for this confusion and clear some things up directly. Texas in July in no way favors abortion and are at a loss for words for those saying hurtful and untrue things about our band’s beliefs and motives. We feel that this is the right place for us to be right now. This is, and has always been, about the music. We are excited to be sharing our music with an entirely new audience and will continue to let our music speak for itself.”

If this wasn’t actually to raise money for the site, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Christians need to go into dark places. That’s where our light shines the brightest. Unfortunately, playing a “benefit” tour that benefits something so very evil is not the best way to get your light out from under that bushel. Perhaps they only looked at the tour dates and didn’t realize that it was to raise money for sexetc/pp? That’s all I can think of as to why Christians would align themselves with this tour.

  • Garrett

I don’t agree with what this tour is promoting. But, I know these guys personally and they even did a pro-life show for me a couple years ago to raise money for Rock For Life. They are not signed to a Christian label, so contacting their management and record label was not the way to go. But then again, they did not respond to your e-mail yet. They are busy with doing shows and getting stuff ready for the release of the new CD. However, Bryan if you want they will be at Purple Door in August on Friday night, so please feel free to contact them directly there. Hopefully, they make a stand against abortion and speak up for those who do not have the ability to.

    • bryankemper

Garrett both their management and publicist assured me they would relay my message to the band. Other bands contacted them for me. They are aware of this and have not responded.

      • Garrett

That’s a shame. I’ll try through my contacts and see what answers I can get and then I’ll relay them onto you, does that sound good?

      • bryankemper

Thanks Garrett, I would love to hear why they are deleting all the questions fans have left on their facebook page.

  • Brit

I don’t see it as filth. I see it as a place to go where teens (even Christian teens) can go to get informed about such topics that you may not teach them because of your beliefs. Yes, I grew up Christian, but I still wanted to learn and did learn about sex. Just because this band is on this tour does not necessarily mean they support abortion or anything like that. They are on the tour because they were booked to play on it. Do you really think they’ll just drop that last minute because of what the sponsor is? No, chances are they would not. So who gives you the right to sit here and say they can’t consider themselves Christian? Move on. Enjoy the music. Go about your lives.

    • April

I don’t know….. Daniel was thrown into a lion’s den for standing for the truth. ( praying in his home ) when the King of the land decreed it a sin. Every single person in your Bible was, faced with situations where their love/relationship with God was challenged. Jesus was hung on a cross for standing for the truth, Mosses left the Egyptian palace and became a slave to follow God…..

As Christians, we are called to stand for the truth not to go on about our lives! The enemy wants you to be self servant and “enjoy the music”. His goal is to kill, steal and destroy the youth in any manner possible. The Bible says: 15“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
      Matthew 7:15-23
21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Your actions, your words, your motivations and the contents of your heart are your fruit.

  • bryankemper

Brit This is not a sponsored show, it is a “Benefit Tour”. The band knows that money is going to this organization. I never once said they can’t consider themselves Christians, and they should quit a tour that raises money for a pro-abortion organization.

  • Kevin Williams

Brit. Perhaps I was harsh in saying they couldnt call themselves a “Christian” band because they are playing a benefit that supports abortion and other things that are diametrically opposed to the righteous character and requirements of our God. Notwithstanding I will stand upon that statement.
We as God’s children cannot compromise on these issues.
God will spew out compromise and mediocrity. Our God’s tender heart is grieved in every abortion and every action that draws people to perdition.
Did you read what is promoted by this benefit???

    • Brit

Yes, I sure have. And I think its a wonderful thing to have to educate young minds that have no where else to learn. The truth is, no matter how much you tell the young mind its wrong and not the thing to do, they’ll still be curious. Therefore they need to know certain things before say, abortion happens or anything like that. I know many Christians who would agree with me on that standpoint, including my family. I myself, am agnostic but I still do not like the idea of abortion, nor do I support it. But the site has more information than just that. Look into it. Stop saying they are supporting abortion. When did you once hear them state that?

      • Kevin Williams

So far they have neglected to “state” anything! By helping to raise money to benefit this website is a statement that is louder than words! Jesus gave us a litmus test that is absolutely fail proof when He said “By their fruits, you shall know them” Read Matthew 7:13-21

      • Papist Ph.D.

“And I think its a wonderful thing to have to educate young minds that have no where else to learn.” Pardon me if I sound flippant, but are you really this naive? They have nowhere else to learn? Seriously? Perhaps you should rethink that assertion. We live in the so-called “information age,” where the problem is not a dearth of information, but a lack of firm ethical foundations for that information. I don’t care how many “Christians” support such immoral and obviously un-Christian actions, websites, and organizations. This doesn’t change their fundamental immorality and, indeed, criminality. Truthfully, I’m disgusted by your glowing recommendations for an organization that does little more than peddle abortion and contraception as “harmless” and “easy” solutions to the problems of premarital sex.

      • Andrew

@Kevin They have indeed made a statement.

  • Ruth

Please as Christians, teach young people about vaccines and the occult.
Common vaccines are grown on aborted babies. Look for common ground in
the culture that keeps everyone down.
Occult and witchcraft in common celebrations of the land, abound.
The mix multitudes, like this event, will flourish and the Gospel will
be challenged until we tell the truth. “Don’t ask, don’t tell won’t work and never will. Tell the truth and then we all can worship in spirit and in truth, or strong delusion will continue to prevail. “His mercy endures forever.”

  • Bobi Beth

Well, Bryan, this band is obviously not really Christian. I guess that the definition of a Christian is anyone who believes in Christ…even satan believes in Christ. This band must be using the Christian title to get more people? What they are doing is very unChristian indeed!

  • Bobi Beth

Okay, I just went to leave them a message and there is no message button so they might of removed it or maybe I am looking in the wrong place? BUT I read that someone post a comment, “I can’t support a bandt that supports abortion” and then when I looked back at the page a min. later the comment was gone! =(

  • judi

Ruth, You need to educate yourself about the vaccine issue. Here’s a good article to get you started. It’s important for pro life Christians to use valid information not urban legends to argue our point.

  • Heather

May I suggest that someone who is familiar with Wiki editing add the band’s connection to sexetc to their Wiki page? I’d recommend adding it under the banner of Controversy, pointing to this article as a source. It’s a cited fact, so they can’t justifiably delete that (like they’re deleting the Facebook comments) as long as it is written according to Wiki standards.

  • Michelle

On iTunes, their genre is ROCK, not Christian.

  • Carl

better yet- get people to review their songs on Amazon…

  • Kris Detrow

Apparently I am banned as well, and all of my comments have been removed. None of them were foul or even rude, just asking honest questions and begging for honest answers. (ok, maybe I did come across as a bit snarky at some point, but killing babies tends to rub me the wrong way.) Brit, sounds like you are young, but please, google benefit concert and read about it. They ARE in fact supporting it.

  • Liv

    eff off.
    enjoy the music.
    this is a buncha bull.

  • shove their album up their @ss

Man this Texas in July music sucks sh*t and so does their political views. Some wannabe band that thinks their making a difference in the world is doing it the wrong way. What’s worse, they delete the negative (but respectful) comments about it on their website like every 15 minutes. No one except them is entitled to their own opinion according to them, so don’t encourage these idiots and buy their album. TIJ is doing themselves more harm than good, and losing fans…I suggest they shape up before God gets pissed and they lose all their money lol

    • Andrew

There is more talent in the first seconds than in your entire body. That’s why your sitting behind a computer posting hateful comments, and they are out
on tour performing there songs, like an ACTUAL band does. Not sure where you get “wannabe” from other than your jealousy.

And they have the right to delete comments and ignore anyone they want, it’s their page.

  • Kevin Williams

Are you a typical TIJ fan? If so, you bear witness of Jesus statement “By their fruit you shall know them.”
I pray that God opens your eyes to the truth, and to His great love. It is His love that motivates us to stand up for what we believe in and to put actions to our convictions. It His great love inside of us that tells us His heart is grieved by these issues. Grieve in Websters means “Intense emotional suffering and pain.” When you love someone your heart is grieved when their heart is grieved and you DO something about it! You try to avert that grief. In His word He tells us: “Open your mouth for the speechless, for the cause of all who are appointed to die.”
What is a ‘buncha bull” is a band that is supposed to be “Christian” benefiting something that promotes ending the lives of beautiful, innocent, defenseless and precious children who will never feel the God appointed nurture of a human family. What is a “buncha bull” is a woman living her life regretting not holding her precious baby. Living with the guilt of having killed her own child!
These are things that if not forgiven and healed through God’s grace have eternal consequences as well.

  • Matt

Get over yourselves. People like you made me hate religion.

  • Kevin Williams

Well Matt, at least you have 1 thing in common with Jesus. He hates “Religion” too!

  • Andrew

They don’t have to answer to you Bryan. No one does.

I’m glad they deleted your comments.

It’s called a fan page for a reason.

  • KaseyKourageous

Other Christian bands have played the Take Action tour in past circuits, including Anberlin, Emery, and Paramore (although they are less public about their faith). Why is this “controversy” just now surfacing??

  • KaseyKourageous

Does not Take Action help in fighting suicide and depression which has also become a HUGE epidemic?? If TIJ was not on this tour, it would be another band. The difference is that Texas In July can speak truth and life and love into the lives of these kids versus the worldly ideas that other bands might and probably would inject. Maybe we should be seeing this as an awesome opportunity for light to be spread in a very dark place of these kids’ lives. A Christian band is on a non-Chrisitian, which is not unordinary…it has and always been a struggle for Christian bands in the music industry.

  • Zach

This article is the epitome of the ignorance that plagues our youth. That tour is supporting a great cause.

Maybe this will clear everything up for everyone and get everyone’s heads out of Texas In July’s business..
“No one is righteous, NOT EVEN ONE. No one is truly wise, NO ONE is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one. Their talk is foul, like stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies. Snake venom drips from their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. They rush to commit murder. Destruction and misery follow them. They don’t know where to find peace. They have no fear of God at all.” Romans 3:10-18.

Need i say more? We are equally guilty to them in our own actions. You’re so quick to point the finger at a “christian” doing bad you forget about your own transgressions. And this isn’t me providing a cop out for myself, I’ve fallen just as far. on the scale of sin 1-500 we’re all 500’s. Not Texas in July a 500, and us a 300,we are 500’s. Don’t be the pharisee cutting down the prostitute, because you’re just as bad. This goes for everyone commenting here, either against TIJ, or against the TIJ haters, including me. I know, very repetitive, but this point needs to get across.

Our Secular Job’s in life always benefit the lost and unsaved world. this is a bummer but true. I install maintain and rebuild auto lifts (like when you take your car to a shop to get work done) If I only worked on lifts of people who were “christians” I would do no work, Fact! we all (may)have our hearts in the “right place” but you are looking at them (TIJ) through the worlds eyes. because they are “bigger than you and me” by being in a touring rock band, Jesus loves them the same as you and me and anyone out there who has yet to call his name. this is sad, if you went to get your teeth worked on and the dr asked you if you ever lusted after a girl in your life or ever stole anything (as we all have done at some point in our lives) and he said he wouldnt “benifit” you by doing the work. only if you were clean from all sin, you would not be in good grases, for sure. we would be breaking Gods wishes, BUT he gave us Jesus! for all we know they (TIJ) prayed about it and God told them to go on the tour just to create this very chat? who knows? you dont , I dont. but what I do know is your meshing the world and the word together. not any two people have the same walk with Christ, or go through that walk at the same pace. if even one girl went up to them after a show and was on the fence, in the lions den and with all the paperwork in hand, but then didnt go through it because of them being on the bill, then thats worth it! if you dont get that, then I’m guessing you dont invite the Holy Spirit in when you read your Bible or sit down with the Lord in Prayer.

Tyler you are missing the whole point. This was a benefit tour that raised tens of thousands of dollars for this organization. I also have witnessed personally that at least one of the band members promotes this organization and wears a key-chain promoting their website. If this was simply a Christian band playing a secular tour it would be different. The band also released a statement saying they were pointing kids to
